It was interesting dealing with the Birmingham stereotype when I was on college and then when I applied for my first job in Flint, because I was totally unaware that it even existed. My dad was military, and I had spent high school in Germany. My parents had bought the house in B'ham when I was in Junior high, and that was what allowed me in-state tuition. But I learned in college and later that people made certain assumptions about me, and I started saying, "Well, my parents live in Birmingham..."
