Thank you...make it three, I guess:
3. For my dear partner, who is in utter despair over what he feels is
a lack of support from our parish for his monastic vocation. He met
with our rector about this and heard some hard-to-hear truths, and
he's doing a lot of projection and magnification of what he heard,
that he's being told he's wrong, is messed up, and so on. The truth is
he's harboring a lot of resentment and bitterness over not receiving
some specific encouragement that I don't think most parishioners
anywhere are aware or equipped enough to give. The "parish" isn't a
single-voiced monolith unanimous in not supporting him: the truth is
there are individual parishioners interested in his vocation,
interested enough to ask him about it and listen. Beyond that I don't
know that he can fairly expect "support" unless someone excitedly
steps forward to join him in being Benedictine. Anyway, I can't talk
with him about it (he rejects any comments I make right now).
I'm not at liberty to pray or do much of anything right now, so I do
appreciate your help, friends. Lord, have mercy.
