[Magdalen] California drought

The article I referenced observed how much water California's almond 
trees need, and that they produce 80% of the world's supply of that 
particular nut.  How did we make marzipan before they started such 
large-scale farming in CA?  It also showed a picture of a farmer 
removing almond trees.
