Actually, I suspect this title is more famous for the Richard Strauss
orchestral tone-poem, "Also Sprach Zarathustra".
It's interesting that Strauss, best known for his operas such as
"Der Rosenkavilier", was an agnostic and did not offer his services
to the Church in his very religious Bavarian homeland. It would be
fun to know what he would have come up with musically if he had
been of a different disposition.
Instead, he composed the wonderful "Four Last Songs", which have
been sung at innumerable funerals, especially for those of no religious
faith. Every soprano worth her salt makes the obligatory recording of
these songs.
