[Magdalen] Prayer pats for me and prayer requests for friends

I'm feeling a bit rattled this evening. My cat, Catkin, has the
beginnings of kidney disease. She has been peeing in my bed this
week, probably in retaliation for having an electrician banging and
rattling in her territory all day Monday. I had begun to suspect it
anyway since I thought she was putting out more urine in the box. She
has also lost weight since she went on a prolonged hunger strike when
the vet switched her to a senior diet food. I had given in and
started feeding her the Fancy Feast she loves. I think she'll eat the
kidney diet since all of them were eating it willingly before Nickel
died this summer.

Just minutes before I had to leave to pick her up we got an email from
our director about layoffs. I had seen in yesterday's paper that
Virginia is about to lay off 500 but the article spoke mostly of
prison closures and reductions in corrections staff. I didn't think
we would be hit because the state has been under pressure to put more
money into mental health. Anyway, I'm ok and by some miracle even the
two new network techs we're in the middle of hiring are ok but the
hospital will lose 9 people and freeze more positions. I am sad for
those who heard today that they are losing their jobs.

I do ask your prayers for Steve, the brother of a friend. He is
developmentally disabled and has always lived with family. He fell
down stairs, has a head injury and is in the hospital. This has
brought to light that he's having heart and lung problems, probably
the same CHF that his mother had. I ask your prayers for him, his
health, his confusion about all that's going on, and probably for
changes in living arrangements.

I ask your renewed prayers for Karen. She has multiple health problem
and some life issues have her very stressed right now. It's having a
bad effect on all of the problems.

To end on a happy note, we had 4 inches of badly needed rain this
week. Grass is green, leaves are turning colors, and tomorrow I am
headed up to Martinsburg to see both sets of the above mentioned
friends. We're trying to help Karen clear out the vacation home she
wants to get rid of. It should be a lovely drive and a chance to see
everyone.

Susan
