I would say that every time I heard him preach (and we made many trips to St 
Thomas when he was Rector) there was some nugget of wisdom that resonated and 
stuck with me. Not many preachers have that gift.

And though he had a reputation of being conservative (they were "Bachelor 
Gentlemen" of the Vestry <g>) he would get his dander up from time to time, and 
something interesting would pop out.

My favorite was a letter to the editor published in the NY Times at the height 
of the controversy over whether gay Irish groups could march in the ST Patrick's 
Day parade in NYC. The director of Ancient Order of Hibernians had said that the 
parade and its participants and their signs and banners  had to reflect Roman 
Catholic doctrine.

So Fr. Andrew responded (in the Times, "I am disappointed that Roman Catholic 
Doctrine includes 'Kill the British'."

He was an interesting guy, to say the least.

I hope we'll be able to figure a way to get to his funeral, but I suspect I'll 
participate on the St Thomas Live Stream here in Scranton.
