[Magdalen] Whither Scotland?

The time of the Highland Clearances drove the Scottish crofters off the 
land so the landowners could make more money off sheep.  And their homes 
were burned, leaving them no alternatives at all other than to 
emigrate.  My forebears arrived in eastern Ontario in the early 19th 
century.
