I climbed the tower, if memory serves, on a couple of occasions, and
was rewarded with tremendous views. The aerial view does suggest that
there is enough room for a parish church there.
There is a functioning parish church in Glastonbury, housed in
a typical West Country Perpendicular Gothic structure with handsome
tower.
I've always thought that the ruins of the Abbey with the manor house
built largely from stone quarried from the Abbey, are especially poignant.
There are so many ruins like this in England. Another equally sad
such is the remaining east wall of the Augustinian Priory at Walsingham,
with the manor house just next door to the southwest.
