I was just stunned to learn that FDR's personal physician was a specialist
in the sinuses.  Of course, the knowledge wasn't all that terrific back
then, but we just wondered if FD got his MD purely because of that guy's
seniority.

I would have thought that, due to FD's paralysis, the MD would have been
chosen to give him special extra assistance in the area he required.  My
assumption would be that, since we know that FD just would never give any
sign of discomfort willingly, it might be that he himself was a factor in
preventing very thorough medical followup.  They kept touching on how in
the midst of terrible news, FD was utterly unflappable, no matter what
happened.  He never let his emotions show at all.
