There were other efforts -- a company called Seattle Film Works  sold movie
film

The film itself was crummy as color film goes, and of course slides from it were 
actually copy slides from the negatives. What made them special was that they 
were pioneers -- back in the 1980s -- of making the digital option available. 
Few people had the firepower nor the software on their PCs (even MACs had 
problems with these files).
