The difference IMO is that our 'rulers'/elected officials have become or are
becoming an aristocracy. In the last 6 years we have heard that they were
privy to stock trades that would be illegal for ordinary citizens, they have
manipulated their campaign dollars so that they can spend them in ways that
used to be more closely monitored or not allowed. Wealthy citizens are a
different group, although many do unleash their money to place others in
power (Koch brothers, for instance). So I guess the aristocrats outside of
government often facilitate the aristocrats who run for election and 'win'.
Either way, we are experiencing something not really seen in this country
before, again MO.
