On the subject of central aisles and triumphalism, I've read that
the clergy literally wept for joy when the temporary wall blocking
off the new nave at New York's Cathedral of Saint John the Divine
came down. There was revealed then the longest central aisle in the
world (It's longer than Saint Peter's Basilica) with the high altar clear
at the eastern extremity (No nave altars in those days).

The new nave was dedicated something like one day before Pearl
Harbor in December, 1941.

I understand that the Cathedral looks amazingly fresh after the
complete clean up of fire damage a few years ago, but I'm
wondering whether that high rise apartment/condominium building
they built on the north side of Cathedral property, affects the light in
St. John's.
with its Connick windows.
