Well, yes, but there's two very important factors at play here.

1)  Senioritis is generally a second-semester phenomenon, and generally a second half of that phenomenon.
2)  School is 1.5 weeks in, and he's already 1 week behind.

Add to 2) the fact that it was like walking on hot coals to finish the 11th grade with a passing GPA (he did okay, but before that it was not at all obvious he would), and we have an immediate problem that needs fixing two weeks ago.
