Of course, a lot of North American English speakers _are_ Irish, maybe 
third or fourth generation or more, but having learned to talk from 
their mothers and grandmothers.  Some individuals of the generations may 
have consciously tried to prune the "Irishisms" (Sure and Begorrah!) 
from their own speech, but such things as Rs might have escaped notice....
