I generally Google unrecognized numbers, and most often I find a
website where people report on them. Most of mine are fake
collection-agency calls or offers for credit cards. Some collection
calls might not be so fake, as the previous owner of my phone number
seems to have had some financial trouble. Once I find out the number
is some sort of scam, an unwelcome solicitation, or just not for me, I
block it via my smartphone's software. Then if they call again, the
phone doesn't ring, but I do get notified that they tried.
