Certainly true in the West of North America where that nasty pine
beetle is killing off the pines, especially the grand Ponderosas and
the Lodgepole Pines.  This problem is worsening because the
overwintering beetles are not killed off secondary to repeated mild
winters.
 
There is an area in Canada where the ranges of Lodgepole Pine and
Jack Pine overlap, and they interbreed.  I'm worried that the  beetles
will start into the closely related Jack Pines, and use the  Jack Pine 
range as an entry into the North American East and its rich pine  forests.
