The ground hereabouts is wet clear down. We have red clay soil, mostly, and
trees are somewhat shallowly rooted. I expect that when the next big blow
comes along a few of them will topple over. I just hope that one of those
will NOT be the tulip poplar that leans toward the house. S/O made
inquiries a few years back, and of course the home insurers will not pay
until *after* it falls and bashes in the roof and part of the bedroom. They
do not pay for preventive maintenance and we cannot afford what it would
cost. The upside of fallen trees is that they provide a heating source for
our neighbor Donnie, with whom we have a "one hand washes the other"
relationship.
