[Magdalen] Chicken pox

Yes, well, I feel the same way about anti-vaxxers, Susan, and I've tried many times over the years to change my son's mind. This is the first "childhood disease" any of the kids have gotten--we're talking five kids over 23 years, so I know he has felt vindicated.

My sister-in-law asked if it's possible to be contagious before the rash breaks out, so I checked, and it is--for up to 48 hours. They're all supposed to get together with my ex-husband tomorrow, and I think she's wondering if they should. And, of course, she's only heard about this from me--they haven't told her yet.
She and my ex have both had chicken pox, and she's had shingles three times, so I don't think they're really at risk. He has Parkinson's, though, and I don't know if that puts him more at risk.

>> Their adopted son and two little foster boys have all been vaccinated, thanks to Social Services.
>> I'm trying not to be too angry, because it's really not my business, but I'm not being too successful. I do think, however, that I'm going to suggest to my married granddaughter that, if she escapes this time, it would be a good idea to get vaccinated.
>> When I had shingles a few years ago, I stayed away from the kids so they wouldn't get chicken pox. I told my son why I wasn't coming to bring something I had for them. He said I should have come, because it would have been good for them to have chicken pox while they were young. (And, of course, before the vaccine, that was what we all thought, and chicken pox tended to sweep through nursery schools every spring.)
>> But I explained about the possibility of shingles in later life and the fact that I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
>> Didn't have any effect, though...
>> Sorry, end of what I guess is a rant.
