Reminds me of that scene in one of Mel Brooks' lesser known films,
"Space Balls".  The scene is a rather snarky spoof of the  fact that for 
most
films, there's more revenue from their use on cable television or
DVD's for home use than from the box office.
 
In this scene, the making of the taped movie and the actual movie
