Back in the day at St James St James (Hi Raewynne!) we'd have a joint service
with the local synagogue once a years. It was easy to do in Morning Prayer Days.

In the 1990s, the Rector decided to try to revive it -- but it DEFINITELY didn’t
work in the context of a Eucharist, and some found it offensive, even as they
has been really enthusiastic about what they had experienced 30 years before.
But the rector, who was young enough and a relative newcomer to TEC had never
been in the church in MP Days, and was simply unfamiliar with how this had all
worked. It was embarrassing.

When I was in Elementary school in Lynbrook, West End School was about 50% RC,
30% Jewish and 20% everyone else. When Our Lady of Peace RC school opened in
1955, the ration turned to 10% RC, and the same relative ratio as everyone else,
and one wing of the school turned into administrative office for the school
district. Classes were really deserted during the High Holy Days after that,
too. I remember the teachers saying to heck with it and sending us all home at
10 in the morning!

Cheers,
Jim
