I think some actors who need to put on a different accent are helped
by also doing a drop (or raise) in pitch. Hugh Laurie may be an
example...along with the American accent he puts on, he does a low
growl. I'm thinking this helps one get away from one's usual speech
habits and keep the accent going. Just a theory.
