Newer systems in newer buildings. But most of the older parishes have all manner
of drafts in unknown places hitting the heating pipes, especially in churches
without basements/undercrofts. In Bay Ridge, there were vestry minutes as early
as 1946 about repairs to burst pipes in the sacristy. And despite years of
problems, no one ever did find the source of the cold air on the heating pipes.
We had them burst yet again as late as 2005, despite efforts to keep the church
no less than 50 degrees in icy weather.

One way of Air Conditioning a church at lower operating cost is to start the
fans going in the middle of the night on hot days so that despite 95 degrees at
Noon, the Church is Cooled down to the mid 70s before the compressors kick in.

That depends on the organ. One of the reasons the 1844 Ferris Tracker at Round
Lake Auditorium near Saratoga NY is the fact that it's been in the deep freeze
or nearly so half the year <g>.
