Roman Catholics were as rare as hens' teeth in my public school
in NW Wisconsin.  There were 250 of us, and there were maybe
six RC students (no parochial school).
 
I was in the family car as we entered my home village when my father 
said "Oh thunder!"  and he lost control of the car momentarily.
 
 
The reason was spotting two RC nuns in full habit who, it turned  out,
were conducting a catechism class.  Such an "invasion" had never
before been seen there, apparently.
 
It was as though we had been invaded from Mars.
