By coincidence last week I wanted to play my disc recording of
RVW's "Flos Campi". I couldn't find it.

I therefore ordered one from Amazon, and it
came quickly, along with some other pieces featuring violas. RVW
loved the viola as do I.

It's funny how the mind works, because this whole RVW and Flos
Campi business started out because I was looking a catalog of
Turk's Cap lilies for next year. There is a movement in the Flos that
mimics a Turkish march. Thence the looking for my lost recording.

The NE Pennsylvania Philharmonic Chorus did Flos back in the
early 1990's. A gang who were disciples of a previous director of the
Chorus and didn't like the new conductor, sat in the front row at
one of the two performances (Wilkes-Barre and Scranton) waiting for
the chorus to get lost counting the rhythms because that had happened
during the previous regime.

We didn't get lost, much to their disappointment.

So it's partisan politics even in regional choruses!

David Strang.
