This Friday == around the corner from me -- will be the Annual Iron Pour at the
Arts on Fire weekend here in Scranton/

They dup in iron ore, limestone and wood to make a hot fire, and at a certain
point -- open the gate to let the molten iron out. It's the way they did things
until the Bessemer process to make steel came along.

I was on an SIA tour of Bethlehem Steel sometime before they ceased producing
steel -- and that process is more amazing than the "simple" iron pour by far.
I've also participated in the Annual Ironmasters Convention few times. That's a
hobby/historical group that is fixated on the entire history of iron and steel.
.I can tell you that it's far more intense than coin collecting <g>.

One of the Bethlehem Bessemer units has been preserved for historic purposes.
The rest of the property was demolished to make way for a Casino. Sheesh.

Cheers,
Jim Guthrie
