Investigating a tree I know little about, the Subalpine Larch (Larix
lyallii)
I stumbled upon a picture of the Canadian Rocky mountain peak,
Mount Assiniboine, at the edge of Alberta and British Columbia
in Western Canada (11,870').
The peak is so strikingly like the Matterhorn (Switzerland - 14,692')
that I thought the picture was mislabeled. I'd love to see it, but
I suspect not for me in this lifetime. It is yet another amazing
phenomenon
of the Canadian Rockies.
I still remember the chapter about the Matterhorn in "Stoddard's Lectures"
which books, along with Richard Halliburton's "Book of Marvels" first got
me interested in travel.
