[Magdalen] And Did These Feet in Ancient (50 years) Times

God and the gene pool blessed me with large feet. The day I learned I wore
a men's 7-1/2 was a banner day. I switched immediately to tie Oxfords,
which I wore to work with dark tights and a wool skirt. Had a couple of
unpleasant encounters with frightened suburban ladies, but got many
admiring looks in Harvard Square.
I remember wearing LL Bean tie rubber shoes in mud season. Not too long
after that Bean began making them in women's sizes.
It was an easy transition for me since my mother only wore shoes when she
dressed up. She was almost always barefoot, bless her. So she didn't mind
my odd habits.
Today it's Birkies or Crocs, depending on the weather. Love the negative
heel.
