Thought that might be the case... I had a friend here in TX, Mary Crane 
(formerly of your Brooklyn church I believe) who was born in Newfoundland... 
and that's how I found about all the 'Newfies' who migrated to NYC to build 
boats, many of whom decamped back to the 'old country' during The 
Depression, then returned for the war effort.  I was under the impression 
that Brooklyn was also 'home' to many 'Newfies' as well.
