The history of immigration includes loads of little nuggets like

1.) Many Italians ended up in New Orleans because the passage
was cheaper than the trip to New York

2.) Sponsoring families & parishes made for a large Greek
population immigrating into southern New Hampshire

3.) Married Canadians immigrated into New England sponsored
by factory owners (the owners preferred young married couples,
considering them more stable socially and economically).

I've heard dozens of stories about fishermen and dock workers
who had a wife & family in Boston and another in Nova Scotia.
