>Have you seen the Rockies? THOSE are mountains!
Drove 26 foot Ryder truck through the Rockies when we moved to California. Have
also ridden the California Zephyr on some occasions -- absolutely spectacular!.
I drove around the Cascades looking for Milwaukee Road Electric locomotives in
1967, too (you can see some of my photos on the Milwaukee Road Facebook page).
But the Adirondacks are the only place I've done mountain-climbing -- at lest
267 feet of the 4267 foot high <g>. II offers a spectacular view on a clear
day -- one can even see Montreal, 80 miles away. I also recommend Mt Washington
in New Hampshire -- but ride the Cog Railway up for a real thrill.
Next year's NRHS Convention in in Denver and promises sever trips in the Rockies
using Steam Locomotives, with some on routes that haven't seen passenger trains
in 50 years.
If my health holds out, we'll probably go . . .
Cheers,
Jim
