I suspect there's something we're not being told. And trust
George Conger not to tell it.

One of the churches here was closed recently. It hadn't been
able to pay its diocesan asking for years, limping along with
a priest who drew no salary. It probably should have been
closed a decade ago, but had continued on life support. The
remaining parishoners blustered and roared, but there was
nothing that could be done.
