Definition of a medical specialist: "A physician with a box of g-- da--
slides".

We had several thousand 35mm slides in our dermatology collection
at the local VAMC, and despite the technique of using these being
much out of fashion, I used them until I retired for teaching purposes.

I would estimate one-half of the slides came from the collection of the
University of Frankfurt/M (German) which were reproduced from that
collection secondary to the kindness of the chairman of the "Hautartz"
(Dermatology) Department at the University - Herr Doktor. Professor
Franz Hermann.

Not only did we have in the collection the common skin conditions, but
also the rarities including slides showing the primary and secondary
tuberculids (skin conditions related to tuberculosis), and a large group
of syphilids (skin conditions related to syphilis).

They worked well for me and I think the collection was very helpful
in teaching. Fancy Power Point equipment I didn't need.

I put the collection in order not long before I retired. Whether the
slides will ever be used again is anyone's guess.

David Strang.
