I used to wonder that about oysters. Who was the first person to
eat an oyster? Perhaps our far-off ancestors were so close to
starvation some of the time that they tried anything and everything,

A friend who grew up in the tropics tells me people watched monkeys
and avoided eating what monkeys refused to eat. That would make
sense, too.
