Never had I heard of this - You learn something new every day, I guess.

And today I also learned that the first Sunday in May is All Species Day, at 
least in Montpelier, VT:

A small, but quite colorful parade.

To me, at least for the past 30+ years, it's been the Walk for Hunger in 
Boston.

Yes, usually annually in May in Anglo-Catholic parishes. Here's a parish in
Honolulu whose e-newsletter advertises a May crowning more elaborate than
ours:
