This past couple of weeks I have been investigating, along with the
Eau Claire Episcopal Diocesan Secretary and several others in Eau Claire,
the history of Saint Edward's Chapel, an outreach of Christ Church
Cathedral
in that City.
I saw mention of this online, and despite having been a communicant of CCC
for about twenty years, had never heard a word about this place.
We've now tracked it down to a building with small congregation built
and operated actively for about 27 years 1896-1923.
We have no pictures of the interior of the Chapel, but it was probably
quite high church in accordance with Eau Claire being one of the "Biretta
Belt" dioceses.
Even though small, it is very picturesque and built entirely of stone.
It reinforces my gut feeling that Anglicans really have taste if they put
their minds to it. This was beautifully built. There was even a rose
window, though now with clear glass.
It is too bad the building has been recycled (it is now a Montesorri)
School). Somehow, if you can believe the wiki-blurb, it was added to
the Historic Register in 2000. No one at CCC knew anything about this
designation.
The Archives of the Diocese have been augmented by a chapter about this
little Chapel and congregation.
