When Marquette Medical School (MIlwaukee) decided that it needed
a new teaching hospital to go with its new name, Wisconsin Medical
College back in the 1970's, they secured a willing donor.
 
Trouble was that the grieving widow would only donate the megabucks
if the hospital was named Froetdert Memorial Lutheran Hospital.
 
Marquette University, the august Jesuit School that it is, found this
unacceptable for a Roman Catholic school.
 
The Medical College then went independent of Marquette, much to
the irritation of the Marquette medical alumni.
 
They went where the bucks were.
