I loved the subtle commentary on the way parts of the Church are going in
the story where the "doddering" old priest saves the funeral. ("She would
be all right now.")

He talks about the characters as real people, and some of the folks who
show up in these short stories simply decided to show up again in other
writings of his, e.g., the Coast Guard enlisted person.
