[Magdalen] "Everett just threw up his hands."

Yesterday was Everett's final IEP of his mandated school career. Kinda bittersweet. My bearded 17.5-yr-old son is no longer a kiddo. Oh well.

He's average in math, and above-average in everything else, which is no shock. He's best at reading and writing (a kid who hates actual books, sheesh), which his teacher says will serve him well in life. This English major turned floodplain manager dad could only agree.

The real news was something that really is flying under the radar. As of October 7, California high schoolers are no longer be required to pass the infamous "exit exam":

When his teacher informed him of this, Everett apparently just threw up his hands in disgust. (He arduously passed the damned thing last semester.)

The replacement? Common Core, apparently. I'm not up on all that, so I'm just reporting what I know.

And that Everett literally has no more hurdles to clear before graduation in May, other than just surviving till then.

Amazing.

(All this with a special tip of the hat to those who knew him before he was born!)
