Harvard's system >>>>>>
Harvard never became enamored with the collegiate gothic style
championed by Ralph Adams Cram, et al.
Both Yale and Princeton adopted that style wholesale, as did so many
other USA colleges/universities such as Duke, and U-Chicago. The
latter two have residual chapel gems from those gothic days, roughly
1900 - 1950.
Being personally much fond of the medieval style, I find wandering
about such as the Princeton campus (which also has a wonderful
chapel) much fun.
I do remember the story, however, of Wisconsin's own late, great
architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who was asked how he liked the
trademark gothic Harkness Tower in the Yale campus. He startled
all by stating that if he lived on the Yale campus he would choose to
live IN the Harkness Tower. That way he could "avoid looking at it."
