LOL, Esther!
I remember wanting to wear seamless stockings, but my mother said those
were for women of a certain reputation...
So was shaving your legs, until she found out that her beloved aunt shaved
hers! After that, it was OK. I was in 10th grade.>>>>>

Who can forget the nylon stocking riots in stores that occasionally
got a supply of the precious real nylon variety? Talk about a
cat-fight!

My Aunt Helen had an inside track to these occasional sales since
she worked at Marshall Field's main store on State Street, Chicago.

I recall all my female relatives wearing girdles which they tended to
call their "garments."

When my next older brother, Jim, was married in a rural Lutheran
church near LaCrosse, Wisconsin, our family bought out a small nearby
motel for the occasion. The family was thrifty about rooms rented,
however, and so there were nieces and nephews rooming with aunties,
etc.

I still have nightmares about seeing all my aunties running about in
girdles/garments on that occasion.

David Strang.
