That's a fair hike particularly if, as some will, you have a child in a 
stroller.  2 miles there and 2 miles back with your groceries - not 
easy.  At least on this small island most people, even in the 
countryside, can get a bus into town - even if it only runs once or 
twice a week.  In some places they have set up community shops which is 
open at set times.  Orders can be placed and the groceries fetched by 
someone with a car and non-perishables can be bought off the shelf.
