[Magdalen] Cane or Beet?

Personally, I've never happened to buy beet sugar. I do remember a
story that my mother told, about accidentally buying some during the war
(WWII), and not noticing until the jelly she made didn't set.
(She had a lot of stories to tell about War rationing).
