Diets: new research hints that different people metabolize food in
different ways - original article behind a firewall, report at
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2015/11/20/the-diet-study-that-upends-everything-we-thought-we-knew-about-healthy-food/.
In other words, it makes sense to try different diets until something
works, is palatable, and is reasonably healthy. I'm still working on
it. Taking out all wheat-oats-barley-rye and all cow-goat-sheep dairy
is a personal rock-bottom requirement. The rest is negotiable (i.e.
not life threatening!).
Tomorrow is Traditional Thanksgiving Day for us: 3 of our 4 offspring
work in the food industry (Manager, Manager/Chef, Gluten-Free Baker).
We've turned over the menu to the youngest 2 (Manager/Chef & Baker). I
got the ingredients - heavy on the vegetables, with 1 large turkey for
adequate leftovers (cold turkey sandwiches!!!).
Non-traditional Thanksgiving scheduling: we're planning 3 Thanksgiving
dinners with 3 different guest lists. The first is tomorrow, with a
currently-dynamic list; the second is on Saturday with the oldest son
and his new family (wife and baby daughter); the third is on Monday
with the second son and his growing family (his girlfriend, her
daughter, his son, their unborn).
Food deserts: the closest convenience country store is about 4 miles
away, so we're almost "downtown" for our rural area. It used to be
there were country stores in the unincorporated "town centers" out
here, within walking distance for most of the population. No longer
true. No public transportation. Cars rule. Seasonally, there are
options to get fresh produce and meat.
Happy late November to everyone!
hugs too - Cady
