Oh for heaven's sake!  Do what makes sense to you so long as you are doing
it for the people who are receiving, and what their needs are, and just
ignore the noise of the apparatchiks.

I think it is really an important thing to make it a point not to take
those folks seriously.  It just encourages them if you pretend their views
are that important. (and, no, they are not)
