[Magdalen] Related to "Yet Another Case of Race Abuse"

When I could drive I often drove to a store we call "the little store"
about half way to the Hy-Vee. I'd buy snacks, soda, and their very nice
selection of meats. The locals shop at the little store. Mostly white and
Hispanic. I stopped there once in my clericals to get some shopping done
for one of the parishioners at Old Trinity.

I met three Hispanic young men in the ice cream aisle. We stopped, almost
to say hello. I said hello in Spanish and he said hello in English. He
reached out his hand, touched my collar, and said, "el Señor?" I said "Si,
si!" I reached out to his beautiful tee-shirt and said, "Santa Muerte?" He
and his two friends all said, "Si, si, si!" I said, in my poor
Spanish, "Please
ora Santa Muerte para mí?" " He nodded and said, "I pray to Señor for
you." We got to the checkout at almost the same time. I indicated for
them to go ahead of me since I wasn't pressed for time. One of them
said "Señor
primaro, Señor primero!"

That was a HUGE Grace from God that day! A chance meeting in an ice cream
aisle of a little store. I've read a lot about Santa Muerte, and I pray
for her to give me an easy death, and the courage to say to God, "Heal me
and send me back. My work isn't done on the other side!"

Grace and peace,
brud
