My son-in-law participated in the Big Brother program before he was married
and has stayed with his "Little Brother" Wes ever since. Wes was in Tom and
Michelle's wedding, and the twins consider him an uncle.  He is now in his
mid-twenties, married and has a new baby. Graduated from Virginia Tech and
works for the Forest Service.

He's in the Army National Guard Reserves and was deployed twice to
Afghanistan. He had planned to retire this year, but the NG said they
needed his particular expertise and persuaded him to stay in, saying he
wouldn't be deployed again.

Well, guess what?  Today he leaves for another deployment--this time to
Qatar! He'll be leaving from the Armory here in Charlottesville, and Tom
and Michelle and the boys are going down to see him off.

So much for military promises...
