There is something about the tactile sense that serves as a kind of
communication.  
 
Years ago, I ran the gauntlet of road blocks that got me entree to
see the Chalice of Abbot Suger of the Royal Abbey of Saint Denis
(Paris).  I asked, and got permission to pick up the Chalice in  my
hands.  It was a way of communicating with Suger that I long  have
