Not at all.  I'm inland from Monterey about 20 minutes north and east, and Carmel Valley is roughly that or more south and east of Monterey.  We're not too burnable, right here.  We're more or less surrounded by dry, barren hills, and of course a lot of lush agriculture.  We're even far enough from the Salinas River to only experience modest damage from flooding.  Our only natural disaster fear is earthquake.
