You haven't given a lot of info on model, operating system, etc., but, since 
it has a touch screen and so can act like a tablet, perhaps it's gone into 
some "tablet mode" which disables the keyboard. My guess, in any event, 
since it's happened on two laptops, is that it's a software, rather than a 
hardware problem.

In both of my laptops, the keyboard is disabled although mouse/ touchpad/ 
touch screen are functional, as is the pull-up on-screen keyboard. Any 
ideas?
