If you want to criticize someone's words, I believe it is best to get them
exactly right.  Among the better ways to deflect what could be an effective
argument is to be able to say something to the effect of "I didn't say what
you say I said!"  Or, "my opponent can't even quote me honestly!"
 Politicians are very skilled at this.
